Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has partnered with Airtel to provide free Wi-Fi on Metro Luxury Buses in Hyderabad. 115 Luxury AC buses have been equipped with free public Wi-Fi hotspots.

The service is a pilot project that is initially slotted to run for a period of six months. The free Wi-Fi service has a limit of twenty minutes per day, per user. If the free service gets exhausted, users have the option of purchasing 100 MB packs for a charge of Rs 25.

“At Airtel we consistently innovate and make investments that help us move closer to our vision of developing our cities into Smart Global Cities,” says Venkatesh Vijayraghavan, Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Bharti Airtel.

“The launch of complimentary Wi-Fi services on-the-go is a real step forward in modernising the lifestyle of our citizens, whether business, education or pleasure.  This remarkable partnership with the Government of Telangana’s TSRTC is the largest in the country and will double the joy for travelers as it connects more Hyderabadi citizens than ever before.” said Vijayraghavan.

Users need a Indian Phone number to authenticate access to the service. The hotspots on the buses are named “Airtel 4G free Wi-Fi.” Users have to enter their phone numbers to connect to the service. On connecting, a four digit OTP will be sent to the phone number of the user. Access for 20 minutes will be enabled as soon as the OTP is entered. Airtel is providing 4G internet services with the pilot project.
